Hand Building & Wood/Soda Firing with Webster Pottery

This is a multi-session class designed to fully immerse participants in creating pottery.

Have you ever wanted to try making pottery? Are you interested in learning more about how to create a functional piece from the very beginning all the way through the firing? This is your chance! In this in-depth class, you will be introduced to a variety of pottery techniques including slab-building, using colored underglazes, and layering imagery to create unique pieces. You’ll have the opportunity to use the potter’s wheel as a tool to decorate and add feet to your pieces. You’ll also learn about glazing pots and loading kilns. The class will culminate in a wood/soda firing where you can see the process in action! Limited class size to ensure ample access to instructors.

Cost: $300

Age: 16+

Skill level: Beginner, no experience necessary

Embroidered Watercolor Class

Join talented artist Alexis Ammerman Hogan for a class that melds watercolor and embroidery. Learn the basics of watercolor painting, then artfully add embroidery to your images to create unique and beautiful pieces. You will leave the class with several completed pieces. Clay Make-And-Take

Join mixed media sculptor and polymer clay artist Layl McDill to learn some of the basics of creating art with polymer clay. Play and create with Layl’s colorful clay and scraps! Choose an object to cover with clay and take home to bake in your oven. This is a come and go style event, stop in any time between 4pm and 6pm to make one, or several unique creations. Open to all ages. No preregistration required. Pay what you can.

Join us for Summer Studio Art Camp! For kids ages 6 and up.

This session of Summer Studio will cover 6 different art mediums. Looking to get exposure to many creative skills? This is the session for you. Attend morning classes, afternoon classes, or both!

Topics include printmaking, mixed media, acting 101, watercolor, drawing, and chalk pastels.

Clay Decal Class

Ceramic decals offer a way to transfer imagery from paper to clay. In this class, students will decorate premade clay shapes with decals. Work with the instructor to create a cohesive group of pieces and imagery that can be turned into magnets, ornaments, or wall hangings. Pieces will be fired again and ready to pick up at a later date. All materials provided.

Mosaic Stepping Stone

For kids ages 5 and up!

Each class participant will create a concrete garden stepping stone decorated with mosaic tiles and glass pebbles. Students will be able to create a personalized design. Date Night: Clay Ring Dish

Celebrate love with some creativity! Grab your partner, friend, or family member or come alone and meet someone new! In this class, students will learn basic hand building techniques to create a small dish for rings, trinkets, or anything your heart desires. Decorate your dish with underglaze, carving, stamps, and more. Students will be able to pick up their glazed and fired piece after the class. Taught by Andrew Rivera.

This mural class is for anyone interested in designing a mural for the pARTicipate Hutchinson project. The first half of the class will cover techniques, breakdown of process, troubleshooting, etc. The second half of the class will be a demo and hands-on activity to practice what you've learned.

Abstract Figure Painting (Acrylic)

Led by Izabella Maher, this class will focus on painting figures. Participants will paint a large (18x24) canvas that contains up to two figures. Learn how to paint a face, basic dimension rules, and how to create beautiful images with large brushstrokes.

Relief Printmaking Workshop

Current gallery artist Glenna Olson will guide students through the process of relief printing from start to finish! Participants will design and carve an image into linoleum blocks, ink and print onto paper, and experiment with various papers and inks.

Holiday Tree Luminary

Local potter Andrew Rivera will guide participants in creating a clay tree luminary. Get creative this holiday season! In this family-friendly class, participants will learn how to sculpt their own clay luminary and decorate it using various techniques. Students will be able to pick up their glazed and fired tree after the class just in time for the holidays. Light up your home with your hand-made piece! All ages welcome.

Class Information

Our classes are taught by professional artists and art instructors, and provide hands-on experiences in a variety of mediums. We offer youth classes for ages 5-9 and 10-15. Adult classes are for ages 16+. In the case of an all-ages class, children 15 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Registration Policies

  • Register online to reserve your place in the class. Credit card payment is preferred, but to pay by cash or check, contact info@hutchinsonarts.org. After registration, you will receive a confirmation email.

  • Payment must be received a week prior to the class start date to ensure your spot and adequate materials.

  • If there is insufficient enrollment 7 days prior to the class date, HCA staff may cancel the class and will notify registrants. All payments will be refunded. Last-minute cancellations may occur due to weather, emergencies, or instructor illness. In the case of instructor illness, the class may be rescheduled.

  • Participants may cancel their registration and receive a full refund up to a week before the class start date. Anytime after this there will be no refund.

  • HCA Members are eligible for membership discounts on classes. Please select this option at checkout. If you are not a member but would like to become one, click here to learn more and sign up.

Scholarships
