What is Yarn Bombing?
Yarn bombing is a type of street art that uses colorful displays of yarn rather than paint or chalk. Although described as “Knit Graffiti”, Yarnbombing aims to enchant and inspire the community with whimsical design; it is not permanent and can easily be removed. Yarnbombing was originally started to reclaim and personalize public spaces, and over the past decade has transformed from cozies to “stitched stories”.
Yarnbombing during ARToberfest at Hutchinson Center for the Arts is for everyone. Those experienced, or not, with the knitting needle can stitch together an imaginative new look for our community’s parking lot. Anything could be Yarnbombed- light posts, parking signs, bicycle racks, even statues; but remember to be responsible, and remove the yarn once it gets dirty and is no longer pretty.
Your mind will be blown by all the yarn, but we might just knit us some serious art.
