Partner Profile: Historic Hutchinson

What are some benefits of partnering with Hutchinson Center for the Arts?

One of the benefits of partnering with Hutchinson Center for the Arts is the collaboration between our organization and the other HCA partner groups. We have partnered with the Hutchinson Theatre Company for our summer productions at the historic church. Sander Family and Old Herbaceous have brought an interest to the preservation of the church; we recently finished the floors, and are looking forward to future events in the space. Many members of the Hutchinson Theatre Company portray characters during our Living History tour in Oakland Cemetery each fall.

Our last Gala at HCA provided an opportunity to exhibit pieces on loan from the McLeod County Museum in the space.

Historic Hutchinson has also partnered with the Hutchinson Photography Club. Images they took while on our Historic Tour through Hutchinson have been shared on our Facebook page and are included in our Walking Tour Brochure.

What are some events that are coming up for Historic Hutchinson?historich

You can find us every Monday at the Popcorn Wagon in Library Square during Music in the Park. (Click here for the Community Schedule.) We will be there during the Arts and Crafts festival as well. Our new Then and Now historic calendar will be on sale soon. Look for more information on our Facebook page.

September 20th we will be at the Farmers Market selling Historic Iris Bulbs.

September 27th is our annual Living History tour at Oakland Cemetery.  A Historic Bike Tour is set for that date as well.

historic2How can the community get involved and support Historic Hutchinson?

Historic Hutchinson is always looking for help with our restoration projects. The Harrington Merrill House, Hutchinson Depot, and Historic Church still need work. We pull nails, landscape, paint, and so much more; if you like to get your hands dirty, we could use your help!

We also need help with the Popcorn Wagon. Whether you want to walk around or stay in the wagon, we have a spot for you!

Our Living History tour is one of our biggest projects of the year. We are always looking for tour guides and actors. If public speaking isn’t your thing, we can always use help with research, set up, and concessions.

Historic Hutchinson is constantly expanding. We are always open to new members and would love to add your unique talent to the group. We meet the first Monday of every month at 6:30 at the Depot. Sit in on a meeting and get to know what we are all about! We think we are a really fun group.historic4
