Love Hats for cancer patients are now on sale at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts in conjunction with the Art is the HeART of Healing show Aug. 6 through Aug. 30.
The hands, caps and scarves were hand made by Hutchinson’s Gayle Diehl. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the gallery.
Gayle started making the hats when her brother, Mick, was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“The family was all together when he started losing his hair from treatments and so we shaved his head and decided if he was wearing a hat we were all wearing hats. That was in January of 2008 and since then I have sold and donated hats in MN, Arizona and Oregon,” Diehl said.
Love Hats are available in fleece, cotton knit and crocheted. All the crocheted hats are cotton yarn. Gayle takes special orders, so hats can be custom made in various color coombinations and sizes.
