Our family moved to Hutchinson in 2007 from Minneapolis. While Minneapolis has an awesome art scene and art is a huge part of our lives, we wanted to try a city that had a little less traffic, a little less noise, a slower pace. We thought living one hour west was the perfect solution.
I use the Hutchinson Center for the Arts a lot. I have displayed work there, attended workshops, and I have sought out advice from the various employees and volunteers. I have attended events, and rented studio space there for personal and group projects.
I am a member of the Hutchinson Photography Club, which is one of the many organizations that falls under the HCA umbrella. We have 30 members. It is the perfect location for our group. We need a lot of space for our meetings. We also utilize the storage space in the basement for all of our equipment.
The Hutchinson Center for the Arts does not just enrich my life, it enriches the lives of almost everyone in the community whether they walk in the door there or not.
I really cannot imagine living in Hutchinson without the HCA. I love Hutchinson but I have said before that the real reason we are here is because of the Hutchinson Center for the Arts and the opportunities it gives me to grow as an artist, teach my children about art, enrich our community and more. To be able to walk downtown, 3 blocks from my house and have a conversation with another artist, do yoga surrounded by art or attend a workshop by an instructor from Minneapolis feels like we have the best part about living in a larger city right here in Hutchinson, without all the “big city” hassle. For a family that “lives and breathes” art, having a center such as HCA is monumental and a “must” for the community we choose to live in.
