Ouroboros Cycle: New paintings by Andrew Nordin
Exhibit runs October 19 – November 12, 2015
The Ouroboros, or snake devouring itself, has been used as illustration and metaphor since at least the Greek era, allowing a myriad of associations dealing with cycles, primordial unity, and self-reflexivity.
“As a painter involved with abstraction, this idea of cyclicality, re-creating, and effort of gesture is something that revolves in my train of thought. I have been using the methodology of gestural abstract painting to play with ideas about a “distilled gesture”, of notating effort between innovation on the canvas and use of pre-determinate sources or images (in creating a matrix or pattern of spatial arrangements).” – Andrew Nordin
Andrew Nordin is a painter based out of New London, MN. In addition to his studio practice, he serves as curator of the Ridgewater College Galleries, and teaches art at both Ridgewater College and St.Cloud State University.
