Open Mic Night Coffeehouse
July 22, 2011
The very talented singer/songwriter/musician, Stacy Halter, will sing and play guitar Friday night, July 22 at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts. This is the first open mic night coffeehouse for the center at their new gallery on Main St. Local musicians and singers are invited to join in. The event is free and open to the public. Coffee will be provided by event sponsor, Joanie’s Catering.
A Hutchinson native, Halter plays soulful folk rock on both guitar and keyboard. Her musical influences include Adele and Sara Bareilles.
Halter started singing in the middle school choir in Hutchinson. She learned guitar about 10 years ago and plays on her father’s guitar. She will play a mixture of originals and published work at the coffeehouse at the gallery.
She has been playing coffeehouses for years in River Falls, WI, where she attended school. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in music education and plans to teach elementary school music. She also offers private music lessons.
Currently Halter is the musical director for the Hutchinson Theatre’s upcoming production of “Gypsy.”
“They are doing a good job learning the choreography and the music,” Halter said about the Gypsy cast. “Its fun to see it all come together.”
She previously appeared in several Hutchinson Theater and Hutchinson High School musical productions.
Stop by the gallery Friday night for a relaxed informal evening of music and coffee.
“I have played in coffeehouses, reastaurants, and bars, but never an art gallery,” Halter said. “This should be fun.”
