July 3, 2014 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm$11.00
NEW! Class offered in partnership with RiverSong Music Festival
Date: Thursday, July 3, 2014 Time: 9:30am until noon
Class Limit: 10 Instructor: Beth Gasser
Ages: 6 to 12 years Registration Deadline: June 23rd
Location: Hutchinson Center for the Arts, 15 Franklin Street
Cost: $11.00 due by June 23rd
Preparations: Kids should wear old clothing. We will get full of paint, as we make our large scale musical instrument cut-outs.
This class will blend a love of the arts! Participants will select one instrument from a number of choices to draw large scale. The first part of the class will be learning to draw from a small to large scale, similar to mural drawings. We will listen to the music of RiverSong performers while we draw the instruments onto large pieces of cardboard. Next, we’ll paint the instruments. If time allows, kids will do some outlining and embellishments. We’ll make sure to take pictures of them with their artwork, as all the pieces will be left at the center to dry and later cut out and clear coat. The artwork created at this class will be displayed at RiverSong on July 18th and 19th. All participants will be given a coupon for a free treat redeemable at RiverSong.
Youth and parents will create a small note that will be displayed with the artwork per their preference for information shared: Name, Age, City or School, etc. Parents will also sign a press release so we can share photos in the newspaper, website, or on social media for Hutchinson Center for the Arts and RiverSong. Look for hashtag #RiverSong14(Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
Art pieces will be subjected to the elements during RiverSong, but we hope to be able to make these large scale (4-6 foot) pieces available for pick-up at the Center for the Arts following the festival, if artists wish to have them.
