Meet the Artist Reception

Saturday, April 14

11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Joyce Young is celebrating her 25th year as a watercolorist. As she has studied and learned more each year, her love has grown for sharing her talent. More opportunities have opened up with the Legacy Grant for art funding. This year marks a time of reflection as she celebrates with a Solo Show at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts. While her paintings of local scenes are well known, and are available as limited edition prints, they were completed following traditional watercolor methods. Most recently, Joyce has begun to incorporate more techniques such as “pouring”, masking and glazing, and mixed media. Over the years, clients have admired her soft touch in rendering floral and landscape paintings. Buildings have been given an accurate depiction. While those are typical works, she has adapted to the recent time for healing and correction of sight after previous corneal surgeries. This brought a new. more free style. Some new works are brighter, more flowing. New design and color techniques have produced collages with themes like “Distressed I and II”. She has traveled and photographed special scenes, buildings and objects. Art works from her collection resulting from these travels, include but not are limited to: the Arizona Desert, Hawaii, Europe and the Pacific Rim In addition, new paintings to be featured will be “Music Is Everywhere”, “Country Gardens” and Seasonal Floral garden Triptych I and II” While riding on Highway 15 to northern Minnesota, her husband Les, has made many stops for Joyce to photograph the rolling hills, the crops and farm buildings. Some of her favorite art pieces have resulted, including her newest “Rollin’ Along” and the old “Redbarn” painting featured previously on the Minnesota Monthly magazine cover. Journaling during travels through art centers, museims, galleries and heritage preservation sites allows for the opportunity to sketch and record what Joyce terms her Treasures around the World. She will also display these Journals and Sketch books for the month of April, during the hours of 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1 to 5 p.m. Fridays at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts at 28 N. Main St., Hutchinson. Also, HCA will host a reception for “Celebrate” with Joyce Saturday, April 14 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
