Holiday Classes

December 15, 2011 @ 7:00 pm - December 17, 2011 @ 10:00 am

Explore your creative spirit!

The Hutchinson Center for the Arts has just added two holiday themed classes! Below are the descriptions. Pre-registration is required – email [email protected] or call 320-587-7278. The classes will be taught by MN artist Carol Gustavson, BFA.

Create a Holiday Stocking

RECYCLE – Going Green with Flannel or Denim Shirts!

What to do with old/unwanted flannel or denim shirts? Recycle them into fun, decorative or useful artistic creations! Winter-time/holiday stocking to hang? Wall pouch to hang to hold mail, keys, gloves or? Maybe a comfy pillow to use while enjoying a movie with the family or to keep your back warm and supported while driving? Dog/cat bed, or? This class will show you any of the above or assist you in your own original creation. Bring any shirt you like, washed and ironed (more than one if you want to mix and match). Bring any decorations, buttons, snaps, beads, charms, ribbons, lace, leather, trimmings, feathers, rhinestones – anything that seems interesting to you. For all abilities from novice to experienced. Take a break and relax in this non-stressful class focused on reusing items you’d normally discard. When you sign up, let us know if you have anything particular in mind and we’ll have additional items on hand for your project. In this two hour class you’ll create your project from start to finish. $25 class and $5 supply fee.

Date: Spend a fun, relaxing evening away from the hustle and bustle of holiday stress at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts, Thursday, Dec. 15 from 7-9 p.m.

Student supply list: Flannel or denim shirt, scissors, any embellishments you like.

Ever wonder what to do with old, unwanted or unusable CDs or DVDs? Re-purpose them into fanciful ornaments for brightening up the long days of winter. In this class we’ll change them into decorative ornaments for Christmas, New Year’s, hanging indoor – or out. They really sparkle up a room and give off a phenomenal glow in sunlight and moonlight. They really look cool hanging on the bare branches of trees. Bring as many CDs or DVDs as humanly possible and come to have a relaxing time being creative and crazy with CDs. Bring along any ‘bling’ you have – anything interesting or shiny such as beads, rhinestones, glitter, charms, moss, feathers, raffia, lace/ribbon/trim, buttons, sequins, old jewelry, reflective tape – anything that suits your fancy. In this class weird is good! In this two hour class you should be able to create at least a dozen or more CD ornaments. Come relax and play with shiny, sparkly stuff. $25 class fee and $5 supply fee.

Date: Saturday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon

Student supply list: CDs/DVDs, scissors, pliers/wire cutters, glue gun, (or share with a friend), interesting decorative ‘bling’ or unusual items
