Center for the Arts Grand Opening

April 30, 2011 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Public is invited to explore new Hutchinson Center For The Arts

HUTCHINSON – The curtain is about to rise on the new Hutchinson Center for the Arts. Individual arts organizations have joined forces to share resources with the goal of making Hutchinson an arts destination for southwest Minnesota.

Partner members in the new collaboration include Hutchinson Theatre Company, RiverSong Music Festival, Crow River Arts, Historic Hutchinson, Hutchinson Parks, Recreation and Community Education and the McLeod County Agricultural Society. The goal of this new non profit organization is to provide quality and affordable art experiences to the people in and around Hutchinson.

The Center is now preparing to open their art gallery at 28 Main Street No. in downtown Hutchinson. The 2,000 square feet center will be used as an art gallery, offices, meeting space for partner members, coffeehouses, expositions, meet the artist receptions, classes and for ticket sales for partner member events.

The art gallery will be officially unveiled to the public Saturday, April 30. Members of the community are invited to stop in anytime from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to explore the gallery at 28 Main St. N.  The Center has hired a new director, Kathy Wnoroski, who already has several special events planned for the year.

“I am very excited to start this new venture,” Wnoroski said. “I think we have tremendous opportunities for growth in expanding local arts opportunities, which will not only serve the residents of this area, but can also bring economic growth to the business sector.”

The gallery will feature rotating exhibits of work from local artists, both professional and amateur, in both mixed media shows and individual showings. Any artist interested in having their work exhibited should email [email protected].

Wnoroski plans to host a new show every month, including several juried shows for amateur artists from grade school age to adults. Students from all McLeod County schools, as well as home schooled students, will be invited to submit work.

“We will also host several themed showings including a show in August to coincide with the McLeod County Relay for Life,” she said.

The show will feature artwork by patients who had, or currently have cancer. Families are also invited to display work from loved ones who have lost their battle to cancer. To submit work for this show, email Wnoroski at the center.

“We would like to know what the public is looking for in the arts – what they would be interested in, what type of classes they want to take and what type of events they want to attend,” she said. “I also hope to offer more free educational art experiences fun children – fun events that will increase their exposure to art at a young age.”

Anyone with an idea for an art program, class or event, is urged to email the arts center at [email protected].  The first fund-raiser for the new organization is Night of the Arts set for June 11 at the fairgrounds. The evening includes silent and live auctions, dinner, dancing and enteratainment by members of the partner organizations. The Celebrity Art Auction will include the sale of artwork created by a partnership of local ‘celebrities’ partnered with working artists.

“One of my goals is to expand the arts offerings in the county – in particular to those who don’t necessarily consider themselves artists, people who would enjoy experiencing art as a hobby,” Wnoroski said.

Tickets for Partner Organizations such as the Theatre Company, will be for sale at The Center and online at www.HutchinsonArts.org. Volunteers are needed to help plan events and work in the gallery. If interested, download a volunteer form online, email [email protected] or call the gallery at (320)-587-7278.

“Whether you can volunteer 4 hours or 40 hours, and whatever your skills, we would love to have you join our committees. We have a need for volunteers in all fields and talents, from publicity to set building, talented or not, please consider joining us,” she said.
