Adult Studio Workshops

Because you asked – Adult Studio Workshops are coming this fall

Adult Studio Workshops are designed for adults of all skill levels. We are excited to bring two new workshops to the studio led by professional working artists Shelley Caldwell and Melissa Ovadje.

Hutchinson Center for the Arts fosters a welcoming environment creating pathways for audiences and artists to connect through the arts.

“Drawing is just as much about responding to material processes as it is about rendering a subject; striking a balance between technical skill and elements of chance and improvisation is essential to making engaging works. The unplanned aspects or so-called ‘mistakes’ along the way are often what lead us to the most unexpected, exciting, outcomes.” – Shelley Caldwell

You will spend the afternoon creating your own unique artwork. Beginning Drawing Techniques will introduce and expand on drawing skills through exploration of materials. You will gain confidence in your observational drawing techniques guided by Shelley Caldwell. In this no fear environment you will play with lines, patterns, and textures within a botanical theme.

Stained glass art reached its height in the Middle Ages when it became a major pictorial form used to illustrate narratives to a largely illiterate population. Melissa Ovadje will guide you through creation of your own stained glass sun catcher.

The art making process fascinates me. I love all things hands on. Before I teach; I must do the process myself and get my hands dirty. I love finding new ways to teach processes and am always trying to make things go smoother. – Melissa Ovadje

You will enjoy a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere with other stained glass beginners. No experience is necessary and we provide all the supplies.

Beginning Drawing Techniques led by Shelley Caldwell and Stained Glass with Melissa Ovadje . HCA Members receive a 20% tuition discount. A great reason to join or renew your membership today!

About The Artists:

Shelley Caldwell
Intrigued by the talent surrounding her as a child, Shelley Caldwell has engaged with the arts from a very young age. Studying liberal arts and graduating with honors, Caldwell received her Associate of Arts degree from Ridgewater College of Hutchinson, MN in 2012. She then continued her studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MNSU), where she earned an art department scholarship and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (concentrating on drawing and painting) in 2015. She was awarded a teaching fellowship for her pursuit of a Master of Arts degree at MSU Mankato where she focused on installation & drawing, graduating in 2017. Shelley has shown her work throughout the greater Minnesota community in venues such as the 410 Project, Emy Frentz Gallery, Carnegie Art Center, The Grand Center for Arts & Culture, and others. Surrounded by the landscape which inspires her most, she presently works from her family farm in rural Faribault County.ntent here
